Byron breakthrough at Kingy

What was a four-horse race following Round 2, has quickly shaped up two a two-horse race at the top of the table with the Hat Head Hammerheads ready to strike in third place.

After finishing in fourth place following Round 1, the Breakers came out swinging in round two taking the round with 23 points – three points clear of Clarence Valley. Age Group wins to Hanninen, Pedrazzini, Cascajares and Killen secured the round for the Breakers, setting them up perfectly as they head towards round three at Trial Bay this month.

Finishing with 20 points, CV had a solid day leaving them only .5 off the top of the ladder. A win to Darren Adams proving critical in both the separation from Hat Head and keeping them within a whisker of the Breakers.

After maxing out in Round 1, Hat Head had a rather quite round – even with McEvoy going back-to-back and taking out an age group win. Walking away with 15.5 points, they remain well within the mix this season but cannot afford to let another round slip.

In just their first season, the Grafton Bull Sharks continue to show promising signs. Improving on their first round points, the Bull Sharks finished fourth at Kingy with 9 points. Ballina and Tweed Valley picked up valuable points, also showing encouraging signs for the future.

Coffs Harbour was all but m.i.a in round two, picking up only three points – a stark contrast to their first-round performance that saw them max out ahead of Clarence Valley and the Hammerheads. Their performance at Kingy sees them fall from first to fourth in standings, 12.5 points off third place.

With just over a week to go before the third round at Trial Bay, the North Coast League is beginning to take a much clearer shape. The Breakers and Clarence Valley are well and truly in it, to win it but Hat Head can’t be ruled out just yet – especially given the seesawing results between rounds 1 & 2. If the inaugural ICL Champions Coffs Harbour are serious about their title birth this year, they cannot afford to let another round go.
