Triathlon NSW is excited to be in the final stages of launching the newly created Regional Interclub Competition across Sydney, South Coast and the North Coast. The concept was born from a very simple realisation in the Triathlon NSW office. Our members are seeking more local opportunities to pull on their club kit and race, earn points for their clubs and travel with friends to events. And we recognise that this is the essence of our sport and what makes it so great!
Clubs will compete across five newly created regions:
South Coast
Sydney South East
Sydney South West
Sydney North
North Coast
The concept will utilise pre-existing races being conducted by clubs and professional race directors.
The creation of the series was a result of surveys through of our club presidents and committees, phone conversations with key administrators in every single Triathlon NSW Affiliated Club and further conversations with commercial race directors. Triathlon NSW has created this concept reacting to the feedback and advice we have received by our most important stake holders – our members.
It was some internal analysis of the pre-existing Hunter Interclub Series and the Central West Interclub series that demonstrated to the Triathlon NSW staff the importance these series have in driving club culture and member engagement.
Chris Barclay – Hawkesbury Hawk Club President stated “As club president, I feel that this initiative by Triathlon NSW brings an exciting dimension to the sport that has been missing. That is, a competition between the Sydney clubs within already organised events – interclub rivalry! Additionally, it gives us all an opportunity to compete across a variety of events and locations.”
The Interclub Competition will feature a newly created website which will become the one stop location for ladders, points scores, upcoming events and interesting new articles related to your local series. This will be launched in the next few days and it is hoped will be a secondary platform to promote our Affiliated Club network to any newbies looking to join the sport.
However there remains no question that the Triathlon NSW Club Championships will be the pinnacle event for all Triathlon NSW members to represent against similarly sized clubs from around NSW and the ACT.
Triathlon NSW will view the first season as a pilot, and will conduct a full survey following year 1 to ascertain what worked, what the members loved and what needs tweaking, improving or changing. And we are also aware that it will take a couple of seasons for us to be able to offer this to all members in NSW, irrespective of where their club is located. But as they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day!
