Tomaree on top in the Hunter
Like many across the state of late, the weather gods have not been in our favour – especially when it comes to the Forager Interclub Leagues. With that, the 2nd round of the Hunter League was forced to a Duathlon and it wreaked havoc for more than one club.
The Tomaree Tridents made the most of their home ground advantage, picking up 16.5points to sit clear on top of the league ladder. Vital wins from Remington and James ensured the Trident’s round win, and league lead moving towards the third round.
Significantly quieter than the Tridents were Maitland, who came in second with 6 points. An age-group win from Xander Schmitz was enough to see Maitland in second on the ladder – just .5 ahead of Newcastle.
Central Coast Maddoggers had a tidy weekend out, picking up 4.5points to keep them in the running – especially if they stay true to form and take the Club Champs (and their double points) for all they’re worth. Given they’re the Division 2 reigning champions, we’d be wise to keep them in mind.
Mick Quinn’s individual performance was essential to not only Newcastle’s round, but their overall standings. Sitting third overall, Newcastle are well placed to make a move come the final round in late May.
Not to be left out of the running, Singleton swooped in the pickup their first points of the season. Not enough to keep them in the running, but certainly enough to keep their competitor’s alert.
The 9-point advantage for the Tridents might not be enough with Maitland, Central Coast and Newcastle notoriously strong at Club Champs. All eyes will be on the final round in Forster, who knows what might happen!
