North Coast Interclub Heats up as a new contender surfs into the lead

With 6 days to go till Round 2 of the North Coast Interclub series, which takes us to the stunning location of Yamba, we ask ourselves the question: can the Byron Breakers stay on top or will the Clarence Valley Stingrays benefit from a hometown advantage?

Without a doubt they have shown their intent, with a ladder topping 20 points at the legendary Kingscliff Triathlon (presented by NXsports). But can they keep up the intensity, and enthusiasm?

President of the Byron Bay Triathlon Club, Deb Fuller, vehemently disagrees that Round 1 was a flash in the pan. When asked if Round 1 was a sign of things to come, she stated ‘We certainly hope so, as the team is extremely committed to the series, and super keen to show we can punch above our weight and knock off some of the bigger clubs in the region’.

There is no doubt that team comradery is strong amongst the 30 odd members in the club. Deb puts a lot of that down to the North Coast Interclub Series, and their third place in ICS01. This just left them hungry for more, and with the shift of Club Champs to Forster on May 23^rd 2020, the Byron Breakers could make their debut in this Interclub grand final race.

We all know triathlon is an individual sport, but Deb Fuller feels the Interclub series has been very good for team building and creating social cohesion. Deb continued, ‘Our team are traveling together to these beautiful coastal locations, with their families to enjoy an active holiday. The social side is very attractive to members. Plus the series is fun, they love the comradery of it!”.

And with the other two clubs from the North Coast ICS podium, Coffs Harbour Triathlon Club Rockets and the Hat Head Hammerheads, both having a slow start, perhaps the coast is clear for the Byron Breakers to surf their way to their maiden silverware.
