North Coast
Battle of Byron upon us
The final round for the North Coast Interclub Series is finally upon us.
Byron Bay is the host with all six competing clubs having a mathematical chance of being crowned the inaugural North Coast Interclub Champion.
Over six captivating rounds so far the lead has chopped and changed several times.
Ballina raced out of the gate, Clarence Valley took charge in the New Year and Coffs Harbour are finishing like a train but it is the new kids on the block, the Hat Head Hammerheads who hold a one point lead entering the all important Byron Bay Triathlon.
The only club to not have won a North Coast Interclub event this year can wrap up the title if they concede less than one point to the second placed Coffs Harbour Rockets.
The Clarence Valley Stingrays are also in touching distance of the silverware and are just 3.5 points behind the Hammerheads.
The Port Macquarie Pelicans, Byron Breakers and Ballina Seahorses are in the mix but all are over 10 points further back.
Whatever the outcome, it has been an incredible first year of Interclub on the North Coast, incredibly well supported by all clubs and their athletes.
It is a shame that we can only crown one winner, but whoever does finish on top will fully deserve the plaudits.
A nerve-wracking ending to a sensational competition, who will enter Interclub 02 with a target on their backs?
