Mudgee edge closer to breaking Orange hold on CW ICL title
The Bathurst Wallabies Aussie Day Triathlon was a great way to celebrate the National Holiday and the ideal place for Central West clubs to go head-to-head in round 2 of their Interclub Series.
The home ground advantage proved vital for the Bathurst Wallabies, maxing out to secure 35 points (alongside Mudgee) and taking the win after a tiebreak. Age group wins to Reen, Smith, Windsor, Simons, and Grady were key to the Wallabies win but the performances from Mudgee, ensured their stranglehold on this season’s series.
After back-to-back rounds of maxing out, the Red Devils have blown out what was a 12.5-point lead, to sit 17.5 points clear at the top of the table. With only two rounds remaining on the CW calendar, Mudgee look to have one hand on the trophy – especially with in form athletes like Matt Webster and Gareth Fuller, who are currently on top in the race to be named MVP. Is it in the realm of possibility for the Red Devils to be caught?
Age Group wins to Middleton, Wallace and Harrison ensured Orange picked up a nice 33.5 points, enough to keep them within reach of the Wallabies as we head towards to the third round – the one in which Orange will host. Can the Piranhas (on their home turf) shake the ladder in the final stages of this season?
Although Dubbo have slipped behind in terms of points, they are performing well. An age group win to Melissa Mertens ensured their points continue to tick over. It might take a minor miracle for them to crack the top three as we pass the halfway mark for ICL04, but consistent performances from the Hippos highlight just how bright their future could be in the league.
All roads lead to Gosling Park for the penultimate round of the series where the Piranhas have the opportunity to capitalise on their home ground advantage and shake up the middle order of the ladder .
Everyone loves a Sunday Session and it’s the 13th of February which the Central West has marked on their calendars.
