Tamworth Tigers Narrowly Outscore Scone Stormers in a Thrilling Opener

The New England Triathlon League kicked off with a fiercely competitive Round 1, and it was a battle right down to the wire between the Tamworth Tigers and the Scone Stormers. In the end, Tamworth Tigers edged out the Stormers 103 to 94, claiming an early lead on the ladder, while Armidale Armadilos finished with 52 points.


Round 1 Standouts

🐅 Tamworth Tigers Lead the Way

The Tigers’ success was driven by strong individual performances across the board:

  • Lauren Ferguson – 10 points

  • Lara Bickersteth – 10 points

  • Samuel Ferguson – 8 points

  • Rose Stackman – 7 points

  • Tim Hurcum – 7 points

  • Alana Levingston – 6 points

  • Colin Ferguson – 5 points

  • Paul Levingston – 4 points

This depth helped the Tigers narrowly hold off a surging Scone team and establish themselves as early-season front-runners.

⛈ Scone Stormers Keep the Pressure

The Stormers were right on Tamworth’s heels with 97 points, proving they will be a formidable contender throughout the season. Key individual scorers included:

  • Sam Levick – 10 points

  • Sheena Carter – 9 points

  • Angela Hipwell – 9 points

  • Mev Sedgwick – 8 points

  • Harry Schumaker – 6 points

  • Tash Deakin – 5 points

  • Oliver Schumaker – 5 points

Their strong showing means the Tigers will need to bring everything they’ve got in Round 2 to maintain the lead.

🏹 Armidale Armadilos and Gunnedah K-Bears

Armidale Armadilos managed 51 points, with Paul Billings contributing 6 points for their team. It wasn’t a podium day, but the Armadilos are a wonderful contributor to the New England League, always attending, always racing and supporting!
