Sydney Premier League Kicks Off in Style at IRONMAN Western Sydney 70.3

The Sydney Triathlon Premier League burst into life this weekend at IRONMAN Western Sydney 70.3, with clubs battling over both 70.3 and Sprint distances in a bid to kickstart their Interclub campaigns. Participation and performance both counted — and some clubs came out firing.

Warringah Waves Ride the Tide

Leading the charge were the Warringah Waves, securing top spot with 139 points. Their success was driven by standout 10-point performances from Graham Bruce, Rob Howitt, Sarah Howitt and Sharyn Nichols. Solid backing from Daniel Howitt, Anthony Spurrett, Helen Hutchinson and Jonathan Deleu ensured the Waves maximised their presence both on course and on paper.

Balmoral Purple Thunder Thunderbolt

Balmoral Purple Thunder put down a serious marker in their first outing, earning 123 points. Their strength came in numbers and quality, with Alex Previterra, Matthew Farmer and Owain Matthews each earning the full 10. Near-misses from Gemma Figtree, Michelle Chen and Chris Cleland bolstered their depth and showed they’re ready to contest all season.

Sydney Giants Show Their Reach

Despite being third overall on 92 points, Sydney Giants (STG) proved their depth and commitment with the highest participation tally of the round. On the performance front, Dylan Clough and Daniel X James made major contributions, while Emily Irvine and Anna Wilcox chipped in in tight finishes. The Giants are sending the message: they’ll be in the hunt all year.

Cronulla Sharks Go for the Hunt

The Cronulla Sharks turned up the heat, scoring 80 points behind a powerful performance slate. Maddie Morton and Sophie Hardwick secured 10s, and Matthew Bonny, Marcelo Rossi and Jarrod Crump added strong points to push the Sharks up the ladder. They showed they can punch above their weight in race execution.

Balance Bolt Bolts In!

Balance Bolt landed in a respectable 5th with 73 points, with Travis Shields standing out with a 10-point effort. Supplementary contributions came from Emily Swales, Fasong Kim, Michael Donnellan and Ben Taylor, showing that Balance can count on finishers across the board even when elite-level stars aren’t all present.

Mid-Pack Movers & Solid Foundations

  • Rozelle Pulse (56 points) leaned on efforts from Rohan Brown, Hayden Brown and Nicholas Katsilis.

  • Concord TC (45 points) were driven by Guy Davies and Jacobus Pienaar.

  • Manly Vipers (39 points) got a boost from Esteban Gimenez Zapiola (9 points).

  • Macarthur (34 points) picked up momentum via Harry Lindbom’s 10-pointer and Jessica Monagle.

  • Brighton Polar Bears (24 points) opened their account with efforts from Sharon Vahanian and David Dibdin.
