Hunter Interclub League: Nitros Dominate, Magic and Tridents Keep the Pressure On
Round 2 of the Hunter Interclub League took athletes to the stunning coastal course of Hawks Nest, hosted by Elite Energy, for another thrilling day of racing. With perfect conditions, the competition was fierce, and clubs delivered some fantastic performances across all divisions.
The Newcastle Nitros continue to set the pace at the top of the ladder, building on their Round 1 lead with a strong showing in Hawks Nest. Key contributors included Hugh Bonney, Heath Williams, David Harris, Nathan McKelligott, Lee Klep, Christina Zaunders, David Mitchell, and Thom Mitchell, whose consistent scoring helped maintain Newcastle’s commanding position with 293 points.
The Maitland Magic put in a solid effort to consolidate second place overall (183 points), led by Allan Hofman, Gary Beveridge, Tim Mackney, Mel Rooke, and Megan King, all of whom delivered crucial points for the club.
Meanwhile, the Tomaree Tridents made a big move up the ladder with strong performances from Allan Lawrence, Nathan Stewart, Hayley Lyall, and Brad Campbell, putting them in third place (145 points) and setting up an exciting battle for the remaining rounds.
In the mid-pack, the Central Coast Maddoggers, Forster Breakers and Singleton Swoopers all added valuable points thanks to standout efforts from Eva Koslowski-Gallagher, Lawrence Lawrence, Daniel Smith, and Stuart Plant, while the Forster Breakers made a late surge with top performances from Colin Bertram to vault into fifth with 66 points.
Particular note of congratulations goes to the four athletes who raced representing Lion Island Lions -Richard Grimmond, Angela Argall, David Nash and Greg Argall. The club took home 62 points making this their most successful round of ALL TIME!!
