Byron Breakers Jump fast, but Tweed Valley Volcanoes buck the trend!
The 2025 North Coast Interclub League roared into action with a massive opening round, producing big fields, fast racing, and a ladder that’s already shaping up to be one of the most competitive seasons yet.
After Round 1, it’s the Byron Breakers who sit proudly on top of the table. With exceptional participation numbers and an outstanding haul of performance points, the Breakers amassed a commanding 150 points, sending a clear message to the rest of the league—they’re here to contend for the crown.
But the big story from our perspective is the Tweed Valley Volcanoes, having a bumper round and earning a whopping 93 points!
Hot on their heels are the Yamba Stingrays, whose balanced team effort—strong participation supported by sharp racing—earned them 97 points.
The Coffs Harbour Rockets are tied just behind on 93 points, keeping the pressure firmly on the leaders.
It’s been a few seasons since the Volcanoes have been this high up the ladder, and we anticipate it’s sign of things to come this season!
The Hat Head Hammerheads and Ballina Seahorses both impressed with big participation turnouts, finishing Round 1 level on 79 points, while the Grafton Bull Sharks logged 58 points to remain well within striking distance. The Port Macquarie Pelicans opened their account with 16 points, with plenty of time ahead to surge up the ladder.

Round 2: Yamba Triathlon – Stingrays Ready for Home-Ground Advantage
The League now shifts its focus to Round 2, hosted at the iconic Yamba Triathlon—a community celebration of racing, scenery, and surf-coast energy.
With its flat, fast course, stunning foreshore, and vibrant event village, the Yamba Triathlon is a favourite for athletes of all levels. And with the Stingrays enjoying home-ground advantage, expect massive participation from the locals and plenty of orange-and-black pride on display.
The Breakers will look to defend their early lead, the Rockets and Volcanoes will aim to close the gap, and the Hammerheads and Seahorses—both strong participators—will be eyeing a big jump up the ladder.
More on the event at yambatri.org, but one thing is certain: Round 2 is set to be fast, loud, and absolutely pivotal in the 2025 North Coast Interclub League race.
