Rain, Swell and Rivalries: North Coast Interclub League Decided at Byron Bay
The 2025–26 North Coast Interclub League came to a dramatic conclusion at the Byron Bay Triathlon, hosted by NX Events, with rain and a powerful ocean swell delivering a fittingly tough finale to a fiercely contested season.
Persistent showers throughout the morning and challenging surf conditions ensured Round 5 tested athletes physically and mentally, forcing clubs to dig deep in the final opportunity to score valuable points. Despite the conditions, the North Coast triathlon community once again showed its strength, with strong club representation right across the field.
Final Ladder: Season Analysis
After five rounds across Kingscliff, Yamba, Trial Bay, Club Champs and Byron Bay, the final standings highlighted the importance of consistency and timing across the season.
🥇 Coffs Harbour Rockets – 703 points
The Rockets claimed the North Coast Interclub League title through relentless season‑long consistency. Maximum point performances at Yamba (150 points), Trial Bay (150 points) and a competition‑defining 258‑point round at Club Champs created a margin that could not be closed. Their measured Byron Bay result was all that was required to secure first place.
🥈 Byron Breakers – 669 points
Byron Breakers built momentum late in the season. A league‑leading 150 points at Kingscliff, followed by strong performances at Club Champs (226) and Byron Bay (127), saw them surge into second place. Their home‑ground finish capped off a powerful second half of the season.
🥉 Yamba Stingrays – 581 points
Yamba’s podium finish was anchored by early‑season strength, including a perfect 150‑point return at Round 2. Consistent results through the middle rounds kept them in contention, with Byron Bay ultimately determining their third‑place finish.
4️⃣ Hat Head Hammerheads – 496 points
The Hammerheads were one of the league’s most reliable clubs, posting steady scores in every round. While they lacked a major spike, their consistency saw them finish comfortably inside the top five.
5️⃣ Port Macquarie Pelicans – 475 points
The Pelicans produced one of the performances of the season with an outstanding 300 points at Club Champs, showing their immense potential. Missed opportunities earlier and a tough final round kept them just outside the top four.
6️⃣ Ballina Seahorses – 292 points
7️⃣ Grafton Bull Sharks – 275 points
8️⃣ Tweed Valley Volcanoes – 139 points
All clubs contributed to a competitive and vibrant series, reinforcing the depth of triathlon participation across the North Coast.
