In a thrilling showdown, the Newcastle Nitro emerged as champions in the Hunter Interclub League las season, narrowly edging out their friendly yet fierce rivals, the Maitland Magic, by a mere 1.5 points. While it may seem like Newcastle Nitro is the favored team to secure a back-to-back victory, the stage is set for the Central Coast Maddoggers. With their previous triumph at the NSW Triathlon Club Champs, they have a golden opportunity to establish themselves as the premier club in the region.
On the 12th of November, the action kicks off with the Hunter Interclub at the iconic Sparke Helmore Triathlon, hosted by H Events in Newcastle. The defending champions are eager to start their campaign on the right foot, but the Maitland Magic is determined not to play second fiddle for long.
This season brings an extra layer of excitement, as two local club races have been added to the mix. Newcastle and Tomaree will host one round each, providing fans and participants with a taste of regional diversity.
Round 5 takes a thrilling twist with a trip to Port Macquarie for IRONMAN Australia, making its debut in the Interclub league. With clubs like Maitland and Tomaree boasting large numbers of athletes, this event could be pivotal in determining the overall winners.
The grand finale of this exhilarating series unfolds at home as the Forster Breakers enjoy the home ground advantage. To make things even more exciting, the NSW Triathlon Club Champs returns as a double point round.
Six clubs will compete, as the Port Macquarie Pelicans have made the move to the North Coast. While expectations are high for top contenders, the Tridents from Tomaree remain a wild card, with their history of fluctuating fortunes and a roster of talented athletes, including Benjamin Maunder, Courtney Weaver, and the Russell trio.
Watch out for standout athletes like Colin Reyburn and Emmanuel Genlot from the Newcastle Nitros, and keep an eye on Colin Bertram and Aaron Eichner, fresh and ready to roll after an impressive performance at the recent IRONMAN Western Sydney 70.3.
While Forster Breakers and Singleton Swoopers may not be front-runners for the title, they are more than capable of securing a spot on the podium.
The stage is set for a thrilling season in the Hunter region. So, whether you’re a spectator or a participant, don’t miss the opportunity to make a difference that could lead your club to the top of the podium.
