Newcastle Nitros Claim Hunter Interclub League Title at CCTRI Mother’s Day Finale
The 2025/26 Hunter Interclub League (ICL) reached a fitting and festive conclusion last Sunday, with the final round hosted by Central Coast Triathlon Club (CCTRI) on Mother’s Day.
Across the seven-round series, 246 athletes took to start lines across the region, contributing to both the performance and participation points for their clubs and showcasing the depth of commitment within the Hunter triathlon community.
After a dominant and consistent campaign, the Newcastle Nitros claimed the overall league title, finishing on top of the ladder and taking out the 2025/26 Hunter Interclub League.
Final Ladder Standings
The final ladder standings are as follows:

Newcastle Nitros proved the benchmark club across the season, finishing on top with a commanding 853 points. Their consistency was key, scoring strongly in nearly every round, including four rounds at or near maximum points.
Maitland Magic secured second place with 684 points, built on a well-balanced campaign. Consistently competitive across all rounds, Maitland capitalised on strong mid-season performances, including back-to-back 150+ point rounds, to cement their position on the ladder.
The battle for third was one of the most dynamic storylines of the season. Central Coast Maddoggers surged into third place with 605 points, underpinned by an outstanding 300-point performance at Club Champs. Importantly, they carried that momentum into the final round at their home event, where CCTRI leveraged their home ground advantage, posting a strong 81 points to secure their podium finish.
Tomaree Tridents were close behind in fourth on 547 points, delivering some impressive peaks, notably a 282-point round at Club Champs.
Further down the ladder, Singleton Swoopers (271) and Forster Breakers (257) both showed flashes of strong participation and performance, particularly in isolated rounds, while Lion Island Lions rounded out the standings after competing in select events.

Individual Series Standouts
Capping off an impressive season, the individual male and female MVPs for the Hunter League were awarded to two athletes from the Tomaree Tri Club who set the benchmark for consistency, performance, and impact across the entire series.
- Male MVP: Nathan Stewart
- Female MVP: Hayley Lyall
Both athletes were outstanding across the duration of the series, delivering consistently high-level performances and regularly securing valuable points for the Tridents. Their efforts played a pivotal role in keeping Tomaree firmly in the mix throughout the season, with each stepping up in key rounds to lead from the front.
A Strong Finish to the Series
The CCTRI-hosted finale provided the perfect conclusion to the season, with strong club representation and a great atmosphere. The ability for clubs like the Maddoggers to capitalise on home conditions reinforced the importance of local engagement and participation in the league’s format.
As the season wraps up, attention will now turn to recognising club achievements and building momentum for an even bigger 2026/27 series.
