Gainsford the MVP for the Central West again

As the sun sets on another Orange Piranhas victory in Central West Interclub Series for season 2020/2021, we turned our attention to the individual battle – the Most Valuable Performer (MVP) title for the Central West.

Join us in congratulating Mudgee Devil’s Clubs Rhonda Gainsford, who took out the MVP for the Central West for the second year in a row.

This success is starting to become some what of a habit for Rhonda, who has a long and successful history in the sport. This inspiring 62 year old ‘Devil’ has been competing in triathlons for over 22 years and has competed in every distance from enticer to Ironman, and four world championships, the last being the Standard triathlon at the Gold Coast in 2018. Despite being a qualified coach, she’s never had a coach, except for a swimming one when competing in IRONMAN distances.

When asked on her success she replied ‘I’m honoured to be part of a great club like Mudgee where everyone is very supportive of each other. I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years, including our member base fluctuating. The committee -of which I’ve been a member for 20 years – at present is small and very hard working, but we also have some great helpers’.

In joint second place was Dubbo Stampede’s Melissa Mertens, who would be really proud of her 6.5 Participation points, which went a long way to the total 65 points the club accumulated across the season. Melissa would have good reason to be very proud of her accomplishments this season, building on her Interclub Series from last season. She’d be keen to get stuck in to next years series now and go for the top step of the podium.

Fellow runner up for the Central West MVP was Molly Dean, who also added another 6.5 points to her overall Interclub Series tally.

Giselle Denley (Mudgee), Matt Dean, Julie Middleton, Amy Robinson and Estelle Dean (All Orange) tied for third.
