Title race heats up at Trial Bay

It was raining points at Trial Bay Triathlon for our North Coast League as each of our Top Four maxed to add 25 points to their total, but it was the Coffs Harbour Rockets who stole the show with a mammoth 39.5 points.

After a VERY quiet round two, the Rockets bounced back to take the third round with age group wins to Silvester, Ensby and Benoit to add the cherry on top.

Clarence Valley had a quality max out performance, collecting a tidy four age group wins (Wall, Fleming, McIness & Culton) as they passed go.

Winning performances to Tina McEvoy and Jules Mackin ensured that the Hat Head Hammerheads also maxed out and finishing ahead of the Byron Breakers.

Although finishing the round in third place, the Breakers also maxed out on 25 points – ensuring their spot is safe at the top,  at least until this weekend. Five age group wins to Cascajares, Jones, Clarke, Hanninen and Killen ensured the Breakers stayed in the mix – one that could prove essential as they line up for round four at Tweed Enduro this weekend.

The Grafton Bull Sharks might be the new kids on the block this season, but their performances speak for themselves as they pick up a further 10.5 points and prove their going to be a hell of a competitor in seasons to come.

The four-horse race continues this weekend at Tweed Enduro, with the Rockets requiring another stellar performance if they hope to stay in the title race. The Hammerheads continue to shape up well in their title bid but it’s the battle between Byron & Clarence Valley that has our attention. Just half a point separates the two as we await a shake up in the ladder this weekend – can the Breakers hold on or with Clarence Valley make a vital move at the halfway mark of the competition?

Stay tuned.
