Swans edge Round 1 in the South East

A cold, wet and windy Sydney Olympic Park Duathlon played host to the Sydney South East Interclub Series opener this past weekend.

Close to 200 athletes braved the early season conditions in a bid to find some early season form, dust off the winter cobwebs and help get their clubs off to the best possible start for the Interclub season ahead.

It was the Eastern Suburb Swans who will be best pleased with the outing, taking home 8.5 points on the day to find themselves on top after Round 1. A 2^nd placed finish for Claire Crennan in her AG and a 5^th from Tsumi Smith helped give the Swans the ideal start to the season.

The Coogee Comets won’t be disappointed with their efforts as they finished just .5 of a point behind Easts. Loren Lane led the charge with a fine 2^nd place finish in her AG, well supported by Charles Leggett with a 3^rd and Laura Harris who finished 4^th. Club President Nicole Cox led by example as always with a strong showing and will be happy with the numbers that turned out for the Comets.

The Australian Chinese Dragons should be buoyed by their performance as they finished 3^rd on the day with 7 points. Nero Zhang and Jian Shi with top ten finishes for the Dragons.

The Bondi BRATS and Sydney Tri Giants tied for 4^th on the day. Daniel X James and Steve Ellis getting on the board for the Giants thanks to a 4^th and 5^th placed finish respectively, with Bevo Bevan securing a 5^th place in his AG for the BRATS. Taso Frantzis and Keith Nicolle secured top 10’s to ensure that it was an encouraging day for the club from Bondi.

The T4 North Bondi Tritans didn’t leave empty handed thanks to a 7^th place finish for Zoe Pedashenko.

The Brighton Polar Bears not featuring this time around.

Round Two of the Sydney South East Interclub will be the Nepean Triathlon at Penrith in late October.

It promises to be a crucial round due to the high numbers from the South East that usually race Nepean.

The Swans, Comets and Dragons will all be looking to repeat Round 1 success and establish themselves as the team to beat.

The BRATS, Giants, Tritans and Polar Bears will all be looking to bounce back into contention and gain momentum before Round 3 at Kurnell.
