Sparke brings Hunter Interclub to life

A hometown advantage saw Newcastle storm home to a Max Out at last weekend’s Sparke Helmore Newcastle City Triathlon, Round 3 of the Forager Greater Hunter Triathlon League. The strong Hunter club were aided by an overall first place position from star athlete Claire Dedden, as well as an Age Group win for Backes.

But – not to be upset – league leaders Maitland TC also had a Max Out, retaining their top spot position thanks to Age Group wins from Boucher, Evans, Farrell and Roxin. Maitland now lead by 4 points heading into the grand final round at the NSW Club Champs in May.

The Lake Mac Triple Threats and Tomaree Tridents also had a strong showing at Newcastle, picking up 10.5 and 11.5 points respectively. They will likely battle it out at Club Champs for 3rd place, with Tomaree narrowly ahead by 1 point at present.

The Central Coast Madoggers have shifted into 5th place on the ladder, thanks to largely to Cox and Longmuir with Age Group wins. They could still be upset by the Scone Stormers or Singleton Swoopers if they decide to contest Club Champs in great numbers.

The Port Mac Pelicans and Forster Breakers got 3.5 and 1.5 points respectively at Newcastle and round out the bottom of the league ladder.
