Back with a bang at Little Husky

A big collective sigh of relief as racing returns to NSW.

Elite Energies Little Husky is being billed as the race that starts the Nation. Well, State. It also signifies the return of Interclub.

Little Husky is Round 1 for the Forager South Coast Triathlon League and it is all set to be another enthralling edition.

Last season it was the Jervis Bay dolphins who took home the title after narrowly edging out their close neighbours and rivals, the Kiama Coasters. This was the Dolphins second title in two years and another season in which they got the better of Kiama. These two giants of the region will start the season as hot favourites once again, however it is highly likely that it will be a four horse race this time.

The Shellharbour Mariners have been building momentum for numerous seasons now and ICL04 could be the year in which we see them mount a serious challenge. There have also been many positive moves out of the Illawarra camp of late which could propel the region’s largest club towards the business end of the title race.

The Highlands Shaggy Cows and the Eurocoast Nomads are still in a momentum building phase and although they will still have their fair share of moments to celebrate throughout the year, it is unlikely that they will feature heavily in the title race.

Titles are rarely won at the opening event, but they sure can be lost. All clubs will be hoping to start their campaigns on the front foot. Come the end of little Husky it is unlikely that we will know who the front runner is but we may see a title favourite stumble which will leave them playing catch up for the remainder of the season.

Little Husky will very much be a celebration of the return of triathlon to NSW, but for many it will also be an opportunity to put their winter fitness work to good use in order to win participation and performance points for themselves and their clubs.

Triathlon NSW prediction – Kiama to win the opening round to assert themselves as title favourite.
