Byron break free atop the North Coast ladder

The home-ground advantage proved fruitful for the Byron Breakers as they maxed out on home turf to open up a gap on top of the Forager North Coast Triathlon League.

Deborah Fuller, Nerida Clarke and Huw Jones left their mark on the competition picking up age-group wins and Sprint State Champions titles – perfect form ahead of double points at this weekend’s TNSW Club Champs.

Hat Head Hammerheads continue to hunt their first title after leaving Byron with 21.5-points to sit second overall and just 8.5-points off top of the table, Byron. The Clarence Valley Stingrays picked up 14 points but wins from Snape and Staader weren’t enough to stop them slipping to third place as we move towards double points in Forster.

The Grafton Bull Sharks continue their debut season with a fourth-place finish in Byron and 11.5-points added to their tally – they sit in 5th overall and look to be fierce competitors come ICL05. Not far behind are Ballina who picked up an encouraging 7.5-points to remain 7th overall. While Coffs Harbour didn’t leave Byron empty handed, their 6.5-point haul sees them wave goodbye to the title hopes while they scramble for a podium finish in the final two rounds.

As we start to descend on Forster for the TNSW Club Champs, the ever-appealing double points will shape the game before the final round in Kingscliff. Will Byron become the first North Coast club to win two titles, or will the Hammerheads and the crew from Clarence Valley put a stop to their run? Only time will tell.
